 Scratch Awl RWS129, These tools have many names among carpet fitters and floorlayers, it is basically a screwdriver handle with a long metal spike on the end. This is useful in many ways using the scratch awl spike to get underneath skirting boards and in around doorways forcing the carpet under edges and neatening up the fitting work. (A job well done and finished will result in recommendations which is the best type of advertising in the carpet trade). The spike can also be used to hold the carpet in place at one end while the carpet fitter makes adjustments at the far side of the room. Please note the scratch awl is a sharp tool and care should be taken when it is being used.
